10 things you might not known about me....
Because this is the place where I will be sharing with you my world honestly and openly I thought what a best way to start this journey that sharing with you things that few people know about me
1) I have curly hair but all my life I have straightened it. The funny thing is my mum used to spend hours doing my hair with big rollers to then jump into a pile of pillows on a chair trying to reach the vintage hair dryer that she got in a garage sale. Every single new product promising to relax curly hair was in our house first hahahaha. But thanks to her I love the versatility of my hair now
2) I got a gig as an extra in a commercial for a cigarette where the main role was played by Antonio Banderas. We spent hours in a beautiful house with the tightest security that didn’t allow phone or cameras. If you are curious Antonio Banderas is not very tall but he has the most penetrating sexy eyes ;)
3) I love having dinner by myself in a restaurant or a glass of wine alone. I figured I travelled for quite a bit and sometimes I didn’t have anybody to share dinner with so rather than having room service I used to explore the city I was in, even if it was by myself. I met so many interesting people and beautiful places and I loved the peace and freedom you have when you do whatever you want without being worried about others.
4) If the kids are sleeping and the husband is out and about my favourite night in is sushi, prosecco and a chick flick. Nothing like watching “He’s just not that into you”, “Dirty Dancing” or “Bridemaids” anytime.
5) I never learnt how to ride a bike!!!!! Yes, I know… unbelievable!!! I truly believe that when I was little my world was surrounded by Barbies and Dollies so I was never interested in boyish stuff. Plus my parents never encourage me to do it specially my mum who didn’t want us to get injured and have scars in our body.
6) When I was 16 I went to a modelling school with the hope that one day I was going to be a model. I was so good in the catwalk that after graduation they invited me to teach some classes. But I was so young than some of the clients complained about my age and I did it for a short period of time.
7) The part that I really don’t like from my body are my feet. Since an early age I remember to hate them at the point of giving a pair of sandals to my neighbour because I didn’t like the idea of showing my toes. It took me about 10 years to be brave enough and start using sandals again. They are long, bony and exactly like my dad’s. I remember feeling embarrassed every time we went to a shoe shop because by the age of 11 I was already size 7 UK (40 EU, 10 US) and it was pretty much impossible to find kids shoes in that sizes. Now I know what kind of sandals I can wear and I embraced the fact that they are ugly and I don’t care what others think about them
8) When I feel sad, upset or angry my two best therapies are chocolate and window shopping. Ok let me explain the concept of window shopping: this is going to a shopping centre or shops and walk around, try new dresses and shoes but come back home with probably a lipstick. It truly makes me to forget any problem in the world and make me feel better. Now if I combine both at the same time, it’s heaven!
9) The first book that I read when I was 8 was “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My dad used to be an avid reader and always encouraged us to read so one day I went to his library and found this book. I was fascinated by the story to the point that I finished the book in 2 days. Since then my love for books and magic realism hasn’t changed
10) My very first trip abroad was to Italy which has a special place in my heart. I saw a different world and a continent that I promised to myself I was going to live someday. The funny story is that when I went back I came with a bunch of post cards for my friends and without realising I wrote to ALL of them that they were my #1 friend in the world (they were like 10 cards). My sister Ingrid realised this and until today she reminds me about how false I was telling to all of them the same……so in case you receive a card from me with that you know I really don’t mean it ;)
Lots of love,
La Mantuana xx
